WHO WE ARE
Barra & Vatersay Outdoor Rangers Service is, since 2025, being run and managed by Bùth Bharraigh Limited. They are a team of enthusiastic ambassadors for the outdoor environment and are keen to share their passion for the natural and historical outdoor environment with others.
Bùth Bharraigh recieved funding from CnES Crown Estate Fund as well as Foundation Scotland Spagan Fund. This current funding lasts for 1 year. With this funding a Ranger team has been created.
Steve Garbutt
Jan-Dec
Steve has lived on Barra for two years working for Barra Bike Hire.
Previously, Steve had a career in Outdoor Education as a instructor leading adventurous and educational activities in challenging environments.
Steve loves cycling and you will often see him doing a lap of Barra.

Ben Morton-Clark
Project & Training
Ben has been a Ranger on Barra & Vatersay for a number of years when it was delivered through Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay. He also worked with Clearwater Paddling as a sea kayaking guide for 10 years so has extensive knowledge of the islands coastline.
Ben's main post is now with the National Trust for Scotland as the Ranger for Pabbay, Mingulay & Berneray Ranger.
You will often find Ben on the waves enjoying a surf.

MEET THE RANGERS TEAM
Kirsty Marshall
Seasonal
Kirsty will work with the Rangers service in the summer months.
Her main post is with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust as a project officer for the Species on the Edge Project.
Kirsty also loves to surf and is a passionate conservationist.

Bùth Bharraigh
Project Support
Bùth Bharraigh is the community and visitor hub in Castlebay. It runs a community shop and visitor information among other services.
The core staff at Bùth Bharraigh provide project support in terms of admin, marketing and finance including funding.
